18-year old Pedri Gonzalez is already taking massive strides towards his journey to becoming a global superstar. The Barcelona youngster has made significant strides up the ranks when it comes to market valuations ever since he burst onto the scene at the beginning of the 2020-21 season.
After that, his stock has only continued to skyrocket, as the Canarian dropped one masterclass after another in his debut stint with the Blaugrana. His club exploits earned him his first international call-up to the Spanish national team, and he was included in the squad to play the Euros.
As Luis Enrique’s Spain made a deep run at Euro 2020 to the semifinals, Pedri played a starring role in the starting team as he did with Barcelona. He impressed so much that he was awarded the accolade of ‘Young Player of the Tournament’ and was named in the competition’s best XI.
Consequently, there has been talk that Barcelona will also offer the youngster a much more lucrative contract extension once their situation improves. Pedri’s market value, as per Transfermarkt, had already seen his valuation jump astronomically high earlier this year.
In the valuation updates around March 2021, Pedri’s value rose to 70 million euros, which was the biggest rise among La Liga players at that time. Now, following his sensational outings with Spain, his value has shot up further, reaching 80 million euros and subsequently making him a favourite for the Golden Boy award.
It just goes to show just how incredible the youngster has been since arriving at Barcelona. And with the Olympic Games looming in Tokyo, the midfielder has a chance to further stamp his authority as one of the games biggest rising stars.
